DO YOU PAD? (Your college application, of course.)
OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS I’ve been researching and interviewing Huntingtown students, teachers, and counslers about this nationwide phenomenon in an article to be published in the next edition of Hurricane Nation and potentially in the Calvert Recorder. You will get to hear the intriguing stories of unknown students like Junior Chris Sadowski, who claims membership to 13 different clubs, takes 6APs, and sleeps very little.
WHAT IS PADDING? It goes like this: Lucy wants to get into Harvard. She has the SAT score, but so does everyone else. So in an effort to make herself appear as well rounded as a bouncy ball, Lucy joins hordes of after school activities, clubs, and sports that you can’t get cut from. Most students preliminarily surveyed (unscientifically) engage in this “padding” to some extent — few remain above it all.
